Sport plays an important social role in Ireland with a variety of sports been played from our national game of Gaelic games to rugby, soccer and the very popular horseracing.
In this section investigate the history of a number of Carlow’s important sports organisations and some of their high points. Gaelic games, both football and hurling are played through out the County with the early 1940s being a golden period for the footballers. Our rugby club has played at the highest level in Ireland for a number of years and is one of the oldest rugby clubs in the country.
Carlow Rowing Club is one of the oldest sporting clubs in Ireland and holds a very popular regatta every year.
