Sport plays an important social role in Ireland with a variety of sports been played from our national game of Gaelic games to rugby, soccer and the very popular horseracing. The social benefit of meeting and engaging with others, the competitive element, the feeling of being part of something bigger than the individual parts and, very importantly, the sense of enjoyment and fun most people get when they enjoy a hobby or pastime brings a multitude of physical and mental benefits to participants.
